The Legacy of Jennie Munger

The Legacy of the Jennie Munger Museum Nestled along the shores of Geneva-on-the-Lake, the Jennie Munger Gregory Memorial Museum is a testament to the rich history of Ashtabula County. Originally built between 1823-1826 by the Fitch family, this Federal-style home holds the distinction of being the first frame house in Geneva Township. Over the years, it transformed from a pioneering homestead into a cherished summer retreat and boarding house, reflecting the evolving identity of Geneva-on-the-Lake as a summer resort destination. Jennie Munger Gregory, a dedicated businesswoman and community figure, purchased the home in 1919, using it as a seasonal residence and a hub for hospitality. Following her passing, the house was willed to the Ashtabula County Historical Society in 1961, ensuring its preservation as a museum and research space. Today, the Jennie Munger Museum offers visitors a glimpse into the austere yet charming accommodations of Geneva-on-the-Lake’s golden era, keeping its legacy alive for future generations.
